Question #: 992

Question: My blacktooth laser, moving at 5mm/sec on full power just make a firm scorch mark, but won't cut through even thin wood. Is this a focus or alignment problem?

Current Solution

If your blackTooth laser is not cutting through the material, there could be a few issues you are experiencing.

1. The lens must be at the correct distance from the surface being cut. Use the tutorial to get the best focal length: https://www.buildyourcnc.com/tutorials/tutorial-laser-blacktooth-determine_focal_length

2. The water running through the tube may not be cool enough to keep the laser tube at he optimal efficiency and performance.

3. Consider pulsing the laser using the technique on the buildyourtools forum. See the links here at the bottom of the description "Additional result": https://www.buildyourcnc.com/blackToothLaserCutterAndEngraver.aspx
