Question #: 6792

Question: Do you have a cnc kit that can cut 2-3" deep aluminum blocks and costs <$3,000?

Current Solution

Cutting aluminum is not a problem with our machines, as long as it is acquainted with a decent aluminum end mill and spindle, and the feedrates and speeds are being follow from the manufacture of the end mill.
Now to have a 3" cutting depth, it is possible even up to our smallest machine (blueChick). I would recommend our blackToe due to the fact that you will have a bit of playing room if any other projects or requests might arise.

  • Do you have a laser kit that can be fitted onto another brand CNC router?

We don't have a laser kit to retrofit another CNC router other than ours, but we can create one. Some things that may help:

    - You are located close to use so we can work closely with you to implement to retrofit,
    - or you can provide very detailed drawings or measurements so we can use them to create the necessary parts for the kit.

Other things that you need to understand:

    - A laser has a number of parts that will bulk up the head of the CNC router causing a bit more inertia which may require lowering the acceleration for smooth ramping up and down of the velocity

    - The bulk of the parts required for the laser may restrict the travel of the x and/or y axes.

    - The nozzle of the laser will be offset from the end mill of the spindle.

Can you tell me the brand of the CNC router that you would like to stick a laser on? (you can answer by submitting additional information.

  • On the blackFoot 4'x8' CNC machine do you have the instructions under one file that I can download, I want to print them out and make notes as I am building the machine.

WE don't have an actual file that contains the instructions for the machines as they are a part of a larger database file that is queried during the product page's rendering in the browser. The best option would be to print the webpage on a printer and use that as notes.

I know this will not provide larger images, but you could use the paper version to write your notes while assembling the machine using the larger images on the website.

  • I HAVE INTEREST IN SOME KIT AROUND 14' X 3.5' CAN YOU SUPPLY? ALREADY PRICE? AND WHAT MORE NEED?, MY IS MODELING KAYAKS CNC

Our CNC machines can be lengthened to work with our customers specific projects.

For a 3.5' x 14' cutting surface, I would recommend our greenBull 4X! (4'x8'). You will only need to add the remaining length of rail(4) and chain(2) to accommodate the additional 6Ft, so this machine will have a cutting surface of 4' x 14'.

The additional lengths for the x-axis travel will be a total of 28Ft, and 14Ft of chain. We recommend selecting all the items you wish to purchase and see the actual total in your cart.

  • Have a CNC routher that uses the Porter Cable 78125 considering 2.2kw spindle and controller do you have any mounts and our recommenadtions?

You are making the right choice. The overall cost benefit of a spindle over a router is worth the change. We used a router back in 2008-2012 and constantly replaced it due to the daily use, but we are still using the same spindle we began using back in 2012.

We sell a mount that you can find here:

The mount fits standard 80mm spindles.

  • Do you have a diagram on how to connect the vfd so the CNC controller box can turn the spindle on and off whenever i start a job?

The following videos are helpful when connecting the VFD to a pokeys57CNC controller; however, there is useful information on the external terminals of the VFD and how to connect the VFD to any controller using a relay. Additionally, the videos have useful information on how to program the VFD.

  • THE CNC MACHINE IS UNSAFE WITH EXPOSED SPROCKETS THAT CAN DAMAGE FINGERS AND HAVE CLOTHING CAUGHT IN IT.

These machines are inherently dangerous. Before the machine moves, the machine should be clear of any person by a dimension of at the distance of a persons reach plus a few more feet. This is the policies we institute in our shop and what is recommend to all of our customers. Treat these machines as you would treat any major power tool in the shop.

With that said, you can certainly add some protective parts, but still keep folks away even with those installed. I would use the gantry side to do all of the mounting of the protective parts. Consider using sheet metal that you can bend and make a simple installation right on the gantry side.

  • To have a compete CNC solution i juste have to : Order and assembly a CNC kit , install a specific CNC software....And is that all ?

That will depend on the CNC machine kit that you select. Make sure to include a spindle with your purchase if the machine does not include one. You will also need end mills to serve as the cutting instrument that will conform to your application. Some machines do not include a table. For those, you will need to build the table for the machine. If you select a machine with electronics and you did not elect to purchase the redFly, redSprout or redLeaf, then you will need wire and cable to connect the electronics.

  • Attaching the aluminum rails to the table. Do you use a 1/4" or 5/16" drill bit?

  • Do you have a more detailed diagram of the rotary and 15A limit switches on the vlxl?

Are you trying to determine how to wire the switches or where to place them on the Vertical Laser XL? Let me know and I will provide some pictures or video on how to do this.

  • I am building the CNC in your book - Build you own CNC Machine. One of the bearing thicknesses is 1/4" I can't find that bearing online. I can find 9/32, will that be a problem. Do you have a source? Thx

As long as the bearing has a minimum thickness of 1/4" and 9/32" is a bit thicker, there will be no problem with the book build using the bearing that is 1/32" thicker. There is actually more surface area which is better.
