    You will need to look for the parameter that controls the run frequency. The frequency can be controlled bu the panel, external terminals, or the RS485 TX/RX terminals (UART protocol). You will want to change that parameter so it uses the panel. If you are referring to the maximum panel dial frequency is only allowing 200-300 rpm, then look for the parameters to control the frequency.

    For 200 RPM:
    Hz = 200/60 = 3.33 Hz

    For 300 RPM:
    Hz = 300/60 = 5 Hz

    If you ever find yourself yearning to reverse-engineer the process, the formula is as follows:

    RPM = Hz × 60

    Look for values that match somewhere between 3 and 5 in your frequency parameters and replace them with 400 to give you 24,000 RPM max.

  • [575] I have the wiring and programming and parameters set the same way that you do in the spindle speed control and outputs videos, I can start and stop the spindle with mach3 but can't seem to control the speed. Can you think of solutions?

    Do you have an oscilloscope? You will be able to see the PWM signal and determine if the output is correct. Make sure that you are using the 10V from the VFD as the voltage reference for the 10V terminal on the Mach3 USB controller. The 10V terminal is an input, not an output on the Mach3 USB controller. The 10V is the top voltage signal level that the Mach3 USB controller uses for the PWM signals 100% duty cycle.

  • I have a 2.2kw water cooled spindle with a YL620-H VFD. The VFD uses the P#-## program format.   • I have wired up my 110v VFD and my 2.2Kw spindle and I get an E.Lu.5 code. My wiring is correct and the parameters are set to those for the VFD according to your website I found in a previously answered question from someone here. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!

    The E.Lu.5 Error code on your VFD is related to Low Voltage.

    The recommended action is:
    - 1. Check whether the input voltage is normal. (the voltage from the wall/breaker to the VFD)
    - 2. Check whether there is a sudden change in load.
    - 3. Check whether there is any phase missing.

    Unfortunately, these three recommended actions will probable require an electrician to test the line going into the VFD.

  • I'VE BUFFERED A PWM SIGNAL TO 0-10V ANALOG AND I WOULD LIKE USE THAT RUN YOUR 110V 2.2KW SPINDLE VFD. COULD YOU PLEASE DETAIL THE CORRECT WIRING VFD SETTINGS GET WORKING?

    This will depend on the VFD you have to identify the correct terminal. The terminal on the VFD will be labeled AI1 typically (Analog Input #1). You will also need to make sure to complete the PWM circuit using the GND terminal on the VFD.

  • When I start my spindle I get a emergency stop in Mach 3. I have run shielded cable and it is grounded at the VFD it is wired per you site instructions. any idea what to check

    You will definitely want to adjust your debounce setting in mach3 if your emergency or limit switch is engaging.

  • I have the 2.2 kW spindle and VFD for 110v, just wondering what amperage this draws, as my electricain buddy is telling me I need to put in a 20 amp breaker for this. I cant seem to find any amerpage draw on the INPUT label

    You can actually set a current limit in in the VFD using the programming process and the specifications in the manual that came with your VFD. You can expect the spindle at 220 Volts AC to draw (using the standard formula):

    For Volts, I will use 230 as the range is generally 220 to 240.

    Watts = Current * Volts

    Can also be written as:

    Current = Watts / Volts

    Current = 2.2kW (2200 watts) / 230 volts

    Current = 9.6 amps

  • How do I get Homing on Z to work with Plate and Ground using Buildyourcnc usb board all the entries for the sensor in planet-cnc are grayed out. I am using input z- and I purchased the software

    To home the z-axis using a plate:
    - Connect the end mill using a large clamping device like an alligator clip with a wire connected to GND.

    - Connect the plate (solder a wire to the plate) to one of the input pins.

    - You can use the autoset to setup that pin in Mach3 simply by touching the two together once connected to the pin and GND.

    Alternatively, the end mill can be connected to the pin and the plate connected to GND as long as there becomes a complete circuit when the end mill touches the plate.

I have gone to planet website and followed the instructions provided but my software will not allow entries in the required fields they are grayed out is it because I am not using planet-cnc's board, I have used this method for years with Mach3 and would like to use it with the usb board and software.

  • What are the configuration settings for VFD for Spindle 1.5kW 110V. The search settings have a link for a 2.2kw spindle so I'm afraid they are the wrong ones and I don't want to fry the spindle. My VFD is an Huanyang HY01D511B.

    Did you get a manual for your VFD? Where did you purchase the VFD and spindle?

    I bought the VFD through Amazon with a similar spindle that you sell. The VFD came with a manual but unfortunately the spindle had all the model number and specs scratched off of it. In an attempt to set it up, I fried the spindle. I have complained to the vendor and to Amazon but have received no solution. If your spindle arrives with proper documentation I probably can set it up myself.

    The HY VFD has three main terminals for PWM control. These terminal inputs are:
    - VI for the analog (PWM) voltage input (input at the VFD, output at the controller, i.e. the Mach3 USB controller),
    - 10V output (this is an output from the VFD and an input at the controller) serves as the high voltage value for the width of the voltage,
    - and ACM the ground from the controller (DCM at the controller)

    In the parameters:
    - PD002 should be set to 1 (one). PD002 is the source of operating frequency which is the RPM of the spindle in the Hz frequency units. 400Hz = 24000 RPM.
    - PD003 specifies the frequency range for these terminals (10V, VI, and ACM) where 10V (voltage reference) is 400Hz and 0v is 0Hz, and VI adjusts the range from 0 and the voltage reverence (10V).
    - PD070 selects the voltage range or current range (for use with the AI external VFD terminal as opposed to using the VI). You want to keep that parameter at the factory setting of 0 (zero) 0-10V.

  • I purchased the 4.0kw spindle and VFD a while back, and have just installed a PMDX-107 controller... do you have any examples of the wiring connections for the SL-240EE to PMDX-107?

    If you want speed control, it is recommended to use the RS-485 connection on the VFD and use the control program such as Mach3 to communication serially with the VFD using this RS-485 connection.

    If you would rather use a controller such as the PMDX-107 to simulate the effect of a potentiometer using the Aref, Aout and Agnd and the Rev/Dir and Fwd/Run terminals to control operation and direction, you can connect those to the VFD.

    PMDX-107 Aout connects to the VI (analog voltage in). This is like the wiper on a potentiometer.
    PMDX-107 Agnd connects to the ACM terminal on the VFD for Analog common.
    PMDX-107 COM connects to DCM terminal on the VFD for Digital common.
    PMDX-107 Fwd/Run connects to the FOR terminal on the VFD for Forward.
    PMDX-107 Rev/Dir connects to the REV terminal on the VFD for Reverse.

    Refer to your PMDX-107 manual to correctly configure your dip switch settings and make sure to calibrate (tweak) the speed control using the trimmer next to the terminals on the PMDX-107.

  • I purchased the blackTooth Laser Engraver with integrated Laser Control Unit and have been following your instructions. I noticed that the laser tube power supply is different that what is shown in your instructions. Do you have any better wiring guides that I can follow for the version that I received?

    There is some variation in the outward appearance of laser power supplies due to sourcing through different vendors. However, the basic wiring requirements are the same in each case. For the unit with integrated laser controller, follow the diagram found here: https://buildyourcnc.com/blackToothLaserCutterAndEngraver.aspx#prettyPhoto/0/. The terminals on the signal side will have a 6 connection terminal block -- these are the ones labeled 5V, IN, G, P (or WP), L (or TTL-L), and H (or TTL-H). The High Power side will have 3 inputs for AC power, one high voltage lead, and one return line. Connect these as shown in the diagram as well: the return line goes on the "front" (beam exit end) terminal of the laser tube, the high voltage lead goes to the "back" terminal of the tube, the FG terminal (or G) receives the earth ground wire of the AC power cable, and the two AC terminals receive the line and neutral wires of the AC power cable (it doesn't matter in this case which wire goes to which terminal).

  • I wired my vfd (2.2kw version) and tried test running the spindle. I configured to your specs on this website, only issue is we got an error code. Err 02, do you know what this is? OR have a list of error codes? Thank you

    Can you provide the model number of your VFD?

    Yes, I have the "YL600 - 2S - 2K20"

    It just came with a small booklet that is all in Chinese...
