Question #: 13889

Question: what does the error code on my vfd mean?

Current Solution

Remember, steps to correct and troubleshoot issues with any electrical devices should be done by a professional electrician.

If you have an HY series VFD, the fault codes are below:

OC-1: Over-current during ramp up or over-current at constant speed.
Recommended actions: 1, 2, 3, 4

OC-1: Over-current during ramp up or over-current at constant speed.
Recommended actions: 1, 2, 5, 6

OC-2: Over-current at deceleration or over-current at stop.
Recommended actions: 1, 7, 2, 9, 10

dL: Output short circuit.
Recommended actions: 11, 1, 10

Ou-1 or 2: Over-voltage at stop, over-voltage at acceleration, over-voltage at constant speed or over-voltage at deceleration
Recommended actions: 12, 13

Fb: Fuse break.
Recommended actions: 14, 10

Lu: Low voltage.
Recommended actions: 15, 16, 17

OH: Over heat of inverter.
Recommended actions: 18, 19, 20

OL-1: Inverter overload 150% per minute
Recommended actions: 2, 21, 22

OL-2: Motor overload 150% per minute.
Recommended actions: 21, 23, 24, 25, 26, 21

dT: Motor over-torque
Recommended actions: 21, 23

E.b.S.A or E.b.S.n or E.b.S.d or E.b.S.S: No feedback from the auxiliary coil or the lectromagnetic contactor
Recommended action: 27

bt: Braking transistor damage.
Recommended action: 27

CPu: CPU fault.
Recommended action: 27

E.E.E.S or E.E.E.n or E.E.E.d or E.E.E.A: EEPROM fault
Recommended action: 27

List of recommended actions:
If error shows at ramp up or at constant speed:
1. Check for a short circuit or partial short circuit and the insulation of the output wire is sufficient.
2. Increase the capacity or the inverter if it is too small. Replace with an inverter that has a larger capacity
3. Extend the ramp-up time
4. Decrease the torque and increase the set value.
5. Check if the motor is blocked and if there is a sudden change in load.
6. Check if there is a sudden chance in the power supply voltage.
7. Extend ramp down time
9. DC breaking is too high. Decrease DC breaking
10. Replace the inverter.
11. Check to see if there is a short circuit with the connection wire of the motor.
12. Extend the ramp-down time or add a breaking resistor.
13. Check the mains supply voltage and insure there isn't ant sudden change in voltage.
14. Send the inverter for repair.
15. Check whether the input voltage is normal
16. check whether there is a sudden change in load.
17. Check whether there is any phase missing.
18. Check the fan in the inverter. Is it spinning? Is it blocked? Does it have any foreign matter stuck on the fins of the fan? If so, clear the fan.
19. Check the ambient temperature in the space that the inverter is placed.
20. Check for adequate ventilation for the inverter where it is placed.
21. Check for jamming or any sudden change with respect to mechanical load.
22. Set the V/F curve correctly.
23. The motor is too small.
24. The motor is hot and the insulation of the motor degraded.
25. Check if the voltage has a large variance.
26. Check if there is a phase missing.
27. Contact the supplier

  • My VFD has started to dL error at startup, what could be the issue?

The DL error usually means that there is a short in the wiring going from the VFD to the Spindle. First remove the spindle connection and run the VFD. If "DL" does not appear then this means the short is on the spindle itself. Remember to double check your wiring and to use heat shrink on the soldering points to prevent any shorts or arcing between the points.

  • what is the current draw of the 220v VFD

The current draw of the 220V VFD is 10 amps. Since the spindle is rated at 2.2kW, and the mains for the US 220V is in the range of 220V to 240V,

    2200W/220V = 10A
    2200W/240V = 9.167A

So, the rage of current draw will be between 10A and 9A, but it is advisable to provide a buffer of about 5 more amps if possible.

  • WHAT DOES THE GREENBULL KIT INCLUDE AND DO I NEED TO INCLUDE?

The greenBull 4X comes with all of the components and electronics to assemble the gantry of the machine. You will need to build the table. We provide the rails and roller chain for the X-axis (along the length of the table for full 8 feet of travel). You will need to provide some wire to connect the electronics and a computer to run the machine. You will also need to purchase the software that you will need to run the machine that matches how you will apply the machine. We suggest the mach3 control program. The CAM program is up to you as there are many options out there.

On Monday, when I get back into the office, I will provide the dimensions for the 2.2kW spindle and I will also provide a drawing of these dimensions on the spindle 2.2kW page. Thanks.

    Additional Information:
    Spindle dimensional specifications:

    - Overall diameter is 80mm
    - The length of the outer housing is 200 mm
    - Diameter of the extension just below the spindle is 36mm and the length is 12mm

  • what size circuit breaker should I use with the 2.2KW VFD?

The 2.2kW spindle has a power rating of 2.2kW or 2200 watts.

If the VFD AC voltage input is rated for 220 volts, then 2200 watts / 220 volts is 10 amps, so a 15 or 20 amp breaker will work.

If the VFD AC voltage input is rated for 110 volts, then 2200 watts / 110 volts is 20 amps, so a 25 or 30 amp breaker will work.

  • MY COMPUTER DOES NOT HAVE A PARALLEL PORT. WHAT DO I NEED?

If your computer does not have a parallel port, all you will need is a low cost PCI parallel adapter card (these can be found on amazon for $15-$20). If you plan on using a laptop (not recommended) you can try to find a PCMCIA parallel adapter, but many people have frequent issues with this setup. A more expensive solution would be to purchase a USB smooth stepper board. Unfortunately, we do not supply any of these adapters and cannot attest to their reliability.
