  • Is there a recommended cooling system for purchase that can be used with your 2.2 kW water cooled spindles?

A standard water pump like this one will work: https://www.buildyourcnc.com/item/pneumatic-hydraulic-water-pump-370-Gallons-Per-Hour-220v-110v

You will also need silicone tubing at 1/4" ID and 3/8" OD to connect from the pump to the spindle: https://www.buildyourcnc.com/Item/pneumatic-hydraulic-silicone-tubing

And a bucket to hold the water.

You may also consider CPU cooling systems which can actually be fastened to the back of the gantry. We do this for the Fabricator Pro machine. The CPU cooling I would recommend is a small pump and cylinder with a heat sink, or a small radiator.

  • I am building a cnc router with twin ball screws on the long axis and I will have a rotary axis as well. I need a 5 axis breaker board using only 4 axis total. Can you help me?

Yes, we can make a redLeaf system that has all 6A drivers for use with the 651 oz-in motors. We can also wire the electronics in a way that two of the drivers will use the pins of the same axis so that axis will drive two drivers and motors.

  • I would like to use Mach3 instead of the software for my CNC router. Can you fix the electronics for me?

Yes, you can send your electronics to us for repair, or retrofit to work with either Mach3, Mach4 or LinuxCNC. You can send us an email at customerService@buildyourcnc.com to set up your appointment.

Some of the types of CNC electronics we will consider.

    - We will work on electronics from other manufacturers as long as you are ok with the Mach3, Mach4 or LinuxCNC control software for your CNC machine or CNC router.

    - We will repair or retrofit used CNC electronics.

    - Some customers find that electronics are overwhelming to put together so we will finish these electronics wiring and assembly for you.

The cost for these includes labor cost for the time it takes to finish the CNC electronics repair or retrofit and for any parts that need to be replaced or added.

Here is an example of CNC electronics that we worked on for a customer:

This is the type of response that you can expect to receive after the CNC electronics are repaired or retrofitted to work under Mach3, Mach4 or LinuxCNC. You can see the entire work, which also shows the time involved. We also show what we were able to accomplish at the beginning of the video.

  • I am interested in buying the water cooled 2.2 KW spindle for $339, how much does it weigh?

The weight of the 2.2kW spindle without the VFD (variable frequency drive or inverter) is 11 lbs or 5 kg.

The 2.2kW spindle with the VFD is 15 lbs or 6.8 kg.

  • I have a planetcnc USB controller to run my project and when I start the 240v router the USB connection shuts down.

The USB controller will only work with the Planet-CNC software. This software is well made and will provide great functionality. The planet-cnc software delivers instructions to the microcontroller on the board and the microcontroller will send out the pulse trains needed to move the machine correctly.

There are two main alternatives if you want to use the mach3 software:
First, get a parallel port card and add it to your computer and get a parallel breakout board. If you have a laptop/notebook computer, this will not be possible.
Second, if you have a laptop, or really want to use the USB as the main interface for controlling the machine, you will need to get the smoothstepper board which works with mach3. The price combination is much higher than the USB controller with planet-cnc, but will work with Mach3.

    Additional Information:

    Additional Information:

    Additional Information:
The planet cnc controller can be prone to electrical interference and has been known to cause such problems. In the first instance try to use a quality double sheilded USB cable, hopefully this will fix your problem. Alternatively you may need to sheild your limit switch, estop and or motor cabling. My pick is that a quality USB cable will fix it though, worked for me.

  • [77] I have a 110 volt 2.2kw water cooled spindle. Can I run it with a 220 volt VFD?

I have not tried connecting a 110V spindle to a 220V VFD; however, the parameters in a 220V VFD do allow changes to the values for the spindle motor. If you do plan on connecting the 110V spindle to a 220V VFD, damages can occur, so I would not recommend it.

With that said, here is the output of an LLM:
Using a 220-volt VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) to run a 110-volt spindle is technically possible, but it requires careful setup to avoid damaging the spindle. Here's what you need to consider:

Check the VFD Specifications: Ensure that the VFD can be set up to output the correct voltage for your spindle. Many VFDs are capable of outputting variable voltages and can be configured via their programming settings to match the voltage requirements of the spindle.

Adjust the Output Voltage: You'll need to configure the VFD to output 110 volts to match your spindle. This is crucial because supplying 220 volts to a 110-volt spindle would likely damage it permanently. Check the VFD's manual for instructions on how to adjust the output voltage settings.

Set the Current Correctly: Besides voltage, make sure the output current does not exceed what your spindle can handle. The VFD should be configured to supply the current at the rating appropriate for the spindle’s power and voltage requirements.

Consult the Manuals: Always refer to the manuals of both the spindle and the VFD. These documents can provide specific guidance on compatibility and settings.

Consider Professional Installation: If you are not familiar with electrical systems or if the manuals do not provide clear guidance, it may be wise to hire a professional. This helps ensure that the setup is done safely and correctly.

By taking these steps, you can safely use a 220-volt VFD with your 110-volt spindle, ensuring it operates efficiently without risk of damage. Just be meticulous with the settings and when in doubt, consult with or hire a professional.

  • I need to replace the fried electronics box for my 6090 wood router. Do you offer a play and play, no wiring required, kit? If yes, how much? If no, can you recommend one?

Yes, we offer a CNC electronics assembled package called the redFly, redLead and redSprout. If you already have a computer, I would recommend the redFly. You would still need to add connectors to the ends of your motor cable.

  • Is there a recommended break in process for a 2.2kw water cooled spindle?

A break in process, I'm guessing means if the spindle needs to be turned off for some reason? If so, then no. The water cooled spindle can be run constantly. We run our spindle for very long periods of time.

  • I am making my own CNC setup using all the electronics from your website and I have many questions. Please advise how to have my computer recognize the USB connection from my breakout board also I would like to use a water cooled spindle but I need to know the parts required for a 4x10 bed area used for woods and plastics

You will need PlanetCNC software for the USB breakout board and when plugging in the USB the computer should automatically recognize the board, however you can go into device manager to see if the USB terminal is working correctly.
The parallel breakout board; the USB is not a connection terminal rather than a power source, and the parallel port will be the communication terminal.
The items you will need for a water cooled spindle would be: water pump, silicon tubing(length desired by customer), a extension cord(from a hardware store(orange))(1 same gauge wire/length as extension cord).

  • I recently purchesed a USB Mach3 breakout board and need help setting mach3 to use a relay to start the router can you show how to set the pins and which port to use on the board to attached the relay?

Sure, connect O2 (output #2) on your mach3 USB board to the GND side of your relay coil. Connect the 24V power supply to the positive side of your 24v relay.

You will want to connect a flyback diode (1N4007) between the coil connections to make sure the coil back current does not damage the Mach3 USB board.

  • I have a water cooled spindle I only need the VFD drive. Does the VFD come with instrutction on hooking the VFD to Mach3?

The VFD does come with a manual that details the wiring and connection specifications, terminal features and a list of the parameters. There is no information on how to connect it to Mach3. It does detail the specifications within the parameters and terminal features on the analog input that is used with Mach3 and other control programs.
